History
• 1926. The company was established in Clerkenwell in 1926 by Herbert Tyrrell and Arthur Needs. Calling itself Tyrrell and Needs the company began by making a range of component parts in Ebonite and Bakelite such as clock cases, switches, knobs and fountain pens. • 1941 - Arthur Needs moved the business to Enfield where steady growth enabled the company to expand into the manufacture of Medical Devices, Surgical Instruments and components for water chlorination. • 1960 - the company changed its name to Needs Plastics to better reflect the type of materials it was working with and supplying. Growth into Injection Moulding followed and soon the business was expanding with “new” engineering materials such as Nylon and Acetal. • By 1970 Arthur Needs had retired and the business was passed to his son in law who expanded the business further with the addition of the company’s first CNC mill. During the 70’s and 80’s the company saw major changes in manufacturing processes leading to investment in automatic and semi automatic machinery. • 1987 the company gained BS5750 pt 2 which is now recognised internationally as ISO 9001:2008.
